Passage: Philippians 1:1-11
Message: Partner or Passenger
Series: Philippians

Read Philippians 1:1-11
Share what stands out to you in this passage.
I was taken by the phrase “partnership in the gospel”
Talk about what that meant to Paul and how it applies to us here at UPBC.

Partnership seems to affect a number of things.
It has to do with how we –
1. Value each other [v3-4]
…..all of you [v4] Discuss how the gospel brings dignity and value to every member of the Body of Christ.
How can we show that or communicate that better?

2. Encourage each other [v6]
Paul could see that God was at work. He noticed what was happening in their lives. It is a basic human need to be noticed.
Share a time when you were encouraged because someone noticed what was happening in your life.
What are some of the major causes of discouragement?
How can we be more aware and more encouraging to others?

3. Work with each other [v7-8
Remember Paul is writing this from Prison and yet it is a letter full of encouragement and joy.
Just from reading these verses how can Paul be in such good spirits?
It seems the Church has always thought that what happens inside a sanctuary is the benchmark of the life of the Church.
However a better guide is found in how we work together, what lengths we will go for each other, whether we will stand with one another at the most difficult and dangerous moments of life.

Share a time when someone stood with you at a time that really made a difference to you.

4. Pray for each other [v9-11]
Paul prays that they would grow in love, discernment and fruitfulness
Put some practical outcomes on a Church that is growing in each of these 3 areas of life and ministry.
