- America has the massive marble statue of Abraham Lincoln at the Lincoln memorial (bringing together of a nation)
- Scotland has William Wallace and his 5'6” sword (against the English)
- Britain (being British) is literally littered with monuments!

The importance of getting things in the right perspective!.
You probably have heard the story of the up right and respectable Christian couple who received a letter from their daughter just a few weeks after she left home to go to college. The letter read as follows:

Introduction
My father is Maori and often we have commented on how Maori many of the Maori's are here in Adelaide. With the culture clubs, and dances and hangi's and gatherings. Sometimes we think they are more Maori than the Maori's back in NZ!
There is something about being in a foreign land that throws a people back to their core identity. The things they know as important.

One of the ways the Roman empire exercised it's control was through it's state religion: the Imperial Cult.
Augustus had elevated Julius Caesar, the former roman dictator and also his uncle and adopted father, to divine status thus making himself divi filiues - son of a god.
The picture Augustus used? That of Julius Caesar being taken up to heaven.

Interesting times - in our weekly ministries more often than not the oldest person in the room.
In High School ministry heading from "Oldest Brother" towards "Dad" age.
Our young people are kind - don't rub it in too much!!!
But I am starting to notice the difference.

Paul, the writer of Ephesians tells the readers in Ch 1 that God's ultimate plan is to place all things under the ruling of Jesus Christ.

John Stephen Akhwari was an Olympic athlete at the 1968 Summer Olympics. He representated Tanzania in the marathon but he fell during the race badly cutting his knee and dislocating the joint. Rather than quitting, he continued running. He finished last among the 74 competitors. When asked why he ran he said simply,
