“Families are like fudge… mostly sweet with a few nuts…”
“Family is like pizza. It’s messy, might give you a stomach ache, and you can’t get enough of it.”
I first came to Unley Park Baptist when I was a teenager. There weren’t many young people then, but I distinctly remember that there was a sense of family across the generations. There were older members who us younger ones called ‘aunty’ and ‘uncle’. The concept of belonging to the ‘family of God’ was acted out around me. Being part of a multigenerational church family has always been a precious part of church life for me.
As Miranda reminded us last Sunday – we are formed in community. We don’t follow Jesus alone. When we become a child of God, we also become a sibling to our fellow believers. Together we become a family, God’s family. A family that supports and encourages one another to grow in faith. We walk the seasons of life together and help the body of Christ be built up. (Ephesians 4:12)
This Tuesday we are starting a four part ‘Confident Parenting Course’, aiming to support and strengthen families in our church and in our wider community. This is a chance to walk a specific season of life with others. Please pray for all those who will participate, that they will learn and grow in ways that will bless their families.
In a few weeks (on March 16th) we’ll have our annual Church Family picnic together. This is a great opportunity to leverage the privilege of being a multigenerational church; to gather at the park, eat together, play games and just have fun. Please plan to be there, as we enjoy being part of the UPBC family!
Blessings,
Sarah
