Knowing Jesus brings blessing.

Lent Reading: Deuteronomy 26:1-11

How is your life better for following Jesus? After freedom from slavery and wandering the desert, the Israelites settled in their land promised by God. In Deuteronomy 26 they are instructed to take a portion of their first crops and bring it to the priest as a thanksgiving offering for God’s goodness. As people gave, they were to remind themselves of what God did for them by praying:

“So the Lord brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm, with great terror and with signs and wonders. He brought us to this place and gave us this land, a land flowing with milk and honey; and now I bring the firstfruits of the soil that you, Lord, have given me.” (Deut 26:8-10)

God’s work brought Israel into blessing and in response they were to give from God’s provision. As they gave in celebration, they remembered with thankfulness and worship flowed.

Knowing Jesus brings us into rich blessing. Possibly materially. Certainly spiritually, relationally, personally, vocationally, and even more. We have abundant life in Jesus. We learn from Deuteronomy we should remind ourselves of God’s work in our lives. Celebrate the blessings the Lord has given you. Recall today how you became a follower of Jesus. Recall what difference this makes. Recall you are to give from this provision in thankfulness to God.

In Him,
