Micah 6:8 “The Lord has shown you what is good. He has told you what he requires of you. You must act with justice. You must love to show mercy. And you must be humble as you live in the sight of your God.” (NIRV)
What does God really want from you? You can find a multitude of books explaining how to live a Godly life. Micah 6:8 keeps it simple. He sees a world full of religious effort, yet deep hypocrisy and asks a simple question: what really matters? It seems we can fill our lives with many good things and still miss the heart of it.
Micah gives three clear directions: act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with God. Not complicated, but deeply challenging. Justice means we take seriously how our choices negatively impact others. Mercy means we show compassion, even when it costs us. Humility means we stay open and close to God, not relying on ourselves.
This is to come from who we are. The NIRV translation writes you must not just show mercy but love to show mercy. This is our heart, our character. It shapes how we speak, how we respond, and how we treat people throughout our day. Jesus shows us what this looks like in full. He lived justly, extended mercy, and walked in total dependence on the Father. As we look to him, he teaches us to live the same way.
What does God really want? Keep it simple. Look for the moments each day to act with justice, show mercy, and do it humbly in the sight of God.
