As our year really begins to get going, I encourage you all (adults and kids) again to consider taking up the challenge to memorise a passage of scripture each month. God’s Word is true and powerful and the more it becomes part of us, the more it will change and shape us, as well as equip us for whatever comes our way.
This month’s passage is Ephesians 4:1-6 – an exhortation from Paul to live a life worthy of the calling we have received. He doesn’t just order us to do this, he describes in detail what it will look like – complete humility and gentleness, patience, and that meaning-loaded phrase – bearing with one another in love. Notice how the very words here hint that this will not always be easy!
Paul then zooms in on the ‘ground zero’ of living a life worthy of our calling – the unity of the Spirit. Just as Jesus prayed for his church to be one, Paul urges believers to be one Body, to truly live out the eternal reality of unity. In verses 5-6, he concludes with this statement that is like a mini creed – one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is over all and in all and through all.
This passage is a great guiding light not only for individuals who want to live a life worthy of their calling but for the whole church together. My prayer is that it might be our trajectory for this year and beyond.
(See me to collect your reward, or just encourage me by letting me know you are memorising 😊
Love to you all, Miranda.
