our god who is involved

Alice YoungFrontPage, News, Pastor

Jesus believes God is intimately involved in the details and concerns of our lives. He teaches:

“…why do you worry about clothes? See how the wild flowers grow. They don’t work or make clothing. But here is what I tell you. Not even Solomon in all his royal robes was dressed like one of these flowers. If that is how God dresses the wild grass, won’t he dress you even better? Your faith is so small! After all, the grass is here only today. Tomorrow it is thrown into the fire. So don’t worry. Don’t say, ‘What will we eat?’ Or, ‘What will we drink?’ Or, ‘What will we wear?’ People who are ungodly run after all those things. Your Father who is in heaven knows that you need them. (Matt 6:28-32, NIRV)

This is incredible and surprising teaching. God, alongside sustaining the universe, gives attention to our prayers for daily bread and strength. I wonder how you experience this attention?

Last week we ran a 3-day project called Big Week Out which mobilised 70 leaders and young people to practically serve in our local community. There were many elements to manage, and every day was full of contingencies. As the Project Manager, this meant I started the day with a great many concerns.

While we drove to the Project base each morning, we read from the YouVersion Bible app the “verse of the day”. The YouVersion App is on over 955 million unique devices globally. It is available in over 2,200 languages. I am not certain if these selected verses are the same globally, but my guess is these daily verses are being read by at least 300 million people across the world. I certainly know these verses were not selected with the Big Week Out Project Manager in mind.

Here is what we read each morning:

  • BWO Day 1 verse of the day: Again Jesus said, “Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.” – John 20:21 NIV
  • BWO Day 2 Verse of the day: Then he said to them all: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me. For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will save it. – Luke 9:23-24 NIV
  • BWO Day 3 Verse of the day: “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. – Matthew 11:28 NIV

The timing of these passages, for the challenge of that day was uncanny. I guess we could say that was coincidence. And it certainly was. But I see more. Each day, through these verses I heard the concern and guidance of our caring God. Just what I needed to hear.

In Him,

Jason
