“For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.”
Hebrews 4:12-13
When God speaks, He invites us to grow. But do we move on too quickly?
At our church, we encourage daily Bible reading. We believe God uses His word—by His Spirit—to bring insight and transformation. Just as we look in the mirror each morning to prepare physically, we look into Scripture to prepare spiritually.
But when God highlights something that needs to change, do we stay with it long enough for it to bear fruit? Or do we rush to the next reading?
Daily devotionals offer fresh thoughts each day. Sunday sermons bring new words each week. But sometimes, are there too many new thoughts? What happened to last Sunday’s word?
Eugene Peterson’s book title says it well: “A Long Obedience in the Same Direction.” That’s how we grow to be more like Jesus—slowly, steadily, step by step.
So, if God reveals an area of growth, stay with it. Focus. Persist. Don’t move on until His life produces fruit in you. Move at the pace of God’s change. No rushing required.
In Him,
Jason
