This week, we begin a new sermon series which will take us through May and June and then from August to September. We’ll be exploring the Minor Prophets – twelve different books in the Old Testament. We call them Minor because they are mostly quite short, especially compared to the Big 5 Major prophets – Isaiah, Jeremiah, Lamentations, Ezekiel and Daniel.

Week by week, we will hear from twelve different voices, each called by God to speak words of judgement, justice but ultimately also mercy and restoration to the people of Israel broken and lost in exile.

These ancient people might seem light years away from us but in the end, they ask the same questions that arise for us, thousands of years later –  How will God meet us in hard times? How will he deal with our brokenness? How will he bring both justice and mercy? When will everything be set right?

There is one major difference. We still live with brokenness, but we have seen God’s heart in his coming to rescue us through Jesus. We have the promise of hope in him. So, with that in mind, let’s tune in with anticipation to the Minor prophets calling us back to the faithful love of God – to return, restore, rebuild and live as a people of justice and mercy in everyday life.
